Our girls love books. They love them so much that sometimes they too want to be put away in the bookshelf. Don't worry, all of our bookshelves are anchored into the wall. I thought they were adorable!

We bought a sled months ago and looked forward to  playing with it with our girls - we did today! Mikelle and Rianne got to sled for the first time today. Rianne liked it but Mikelle seemed to not enjoy it as much. It was a short activity but it was fun!

I remember how anxious I was to start feeding our girls solid food - then it got really messy! Food is always all over the floor, all over  them and sometimes all over me, or wall, chairs, waitress - the list could be endless. Have you had the feeling that fairness means giving a tip at a restaurant twice as much as your bill? - I did but of course I didn't give in (I needed the money for diapers). I remember being very excited preparing their first finger food at around 8 months cutting it really small so they don't choke - so small an ant could carry a piece on its back away from my girls' slow fingers. I remember steaming fruits and vegetables to make them really soft, but some days just relied on my good friend the can opener to get them soft food. Those times were not fun then, but I cherish them. It's fun remembering the past, and so exciting to see how far they have gone - from having a feeding tube threaded in through their nostrils, to using a spoon and actually getting the food into their mouths and not on their heads.

On another exciting note, my girls got to eat with my dear friend Krystal's twins, Joslyn and Jakob, on their play date. They had fun and I hope we could do this more!

Communication with babies and toddlers are challenging and could be frustrating for both the baby and the parents. We decided to use some signs for a few things with our girls. Mikelle learned the signs a couple of weeks earlier than Rianne and it was a good help for all of us. I just have to keep using them so our girls remember to use them. I think they started using signs when they were 10 months old. Some of the words that they use sign for are milk, kain (eat), more, change  diaper, thank you, and bath time. I think I should learn some more signs so I can teach them but for now, I am happy that they at least know what they know and use them to communicate - which makes life a bit easier for me.

What Rianne wants, Rianne gets, at least between the two of them at the moment. These girls keep switching roles. Mikelle used to be the one that takes away toys from Rianne. Once they were playing and whatever toy Rianne has in her hand, Mikelle would take away from her and throw it somewhere so she could take again the next toy Rianne was playing with. Rianne got frustrated at first but finally gave up and just moved on to the next toy when Mikelle took what she had and moved on to the next again, and again. We interfere sometimes but we as well let them deal with it once in a while. There are days that Rianne fought back by hitting and biting. Oh, Mikelle used to be the biter too but now Rianne takes the role. Who knows who will be what the next day, or hour, maybe next minute?
Caught in the act: Rianne was taking the cellphone toy from Mikelle.

We have decided that Rianne is not getting a cellphone anytime soon.

I know we are way behind our blog updates on our Philippine trip - we will get to that sometime, hopefully.

Anyway, we had the first day of snow of 2012 today. It was as well the first time Mikelle and Rianne really paid attention to it and we got the chance to go out and took some pictures and videos.

Mikelle was excited to be out
 And so was Rianne

 And now, the video:
